I am delighted to reveal the reintroduction of Glenshee Linen after a number of years of non-availability to the U.K. market; this is again being manufactured by a Scottish weaver with a long standing knowledge and affinity of the flax fibre, commissioned to my specification as sole UK distributor. Anyone who can remember this fabric pre 1990's will need no introduction to its evenly woven full-bodied texture from which long lengths of thread could be withdrawn without disintegrating. The main feature of
Glenshee linen is that it is woven using a folded yarn (2 ply) helping
to give the fabric a stable web, making it very suitable for many
needlecrafts, including Ruskin Lace For which it had been used since the
1920's; Hardanger Work, Counted Cross-Stitch, Drawn Fabric Work, Counted
thread Work, Casalquidi Style Work, Black Work, and any other form of
needlework that requires an evenly woven grid. It can also be used
for many other forms of surface embroidery. |
